Marie South is a passionate, award-winning director, choreographer, and performer. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a B.A. in Theatre Education and minors in dance, music, and English. She received her M.A. in Teaching and Learning from Colorado State University.
During college Marie was a member of the UNC dance Tour Troupe and performed all over the state of Colorado. After college she taught both middle and high school theatre and dance in the Douglas County School District and Gilbert, AZ. She is excited to be back in Arizona and is now teaching dance fulltime at Chandler High School, while inspiring students in tap, theatre, and Showstoppers here at Limelight.
Marie has directed and choreographed many shows. Her favorites include Anything Goes, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Swing!, Grease, and Beauty and Beast (2x). Her production of Swing! was one of two shows selected by state adjudicators to perform at the annual Colorado State Thespian Convention for an audience of over 3600 people. Marie was also honored to receive AriZoni awards for both direction and choreography for Seussical, Jr at Limelight in 2014.
Marie is very excited to be on the founding board for Limelight Performing Arts, as Secretary. This season, she will be directing Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat alongside Limelight Performing Arts President, Emma England. Marie & Emma are excited to work together on their next project, after the outstanding success of their last 2 productions, Seussical, Jr. (2014) and Grease (2015).
